Here are some interesting stats from this week’s issue of Maclean‘s magazine:

From 1776 to present day, including the Civil War, the World Wars and modern conflicts, a total of 580 000 U.S. troops have been killed in action.  Compare to that the number of firearm deaths inside the U.S. since 1970.  That number is 1.3 million.  It is estimated that the number of non-fatal injuries from firearms in the same period would be about 5 million.  In the single year o f 2007, there were 31 224 gunshot fatalities, of which 12 632 were murders (and the others being accidents and suicides).  Over the past three decades there have been an average of 20 mass shootings, …per year.

Just sayin’.
