I would never have guessed this to be the hit movie of the summer, at least for those not hypnotized by Harry Potter. All aspects of the movie were excellent, replacing the lame story lines of the original movies with one considerably more mature and coherent. The original movies had great social comment and theme going for them, but were otherwise weak. This one manages both relevance and good production.
My favorite part of the film was the tremendously excellent facial expressions that were applied to the apes. Revealing much more than dialogue ever could, these expressions invoked emotion and motive on the part of the apes, helping to make them the central characters they needed to be.
An interesting and action packed movie, I would give this film an A.
