Prayer Perhaps Necessary Because of Budget Cuts??

I really feel bad doing this.  Nobody wants to kick someone when they’re down, even when they deserve it.

In the last post I pointed out the blatant failure of Texas Governor Rick Perry to mobilize prayer to combat the drought in his state.  I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I am opposed to Perry only because of his religious delusions.  Over the past week we have seen a heartbreaking scenario unfold in Texas as wildfires resulting from the drought are consuming people’s homes and businesses.

In addition to fringe religious delusions, one of the other things that extreme right wingers advocate is the shrinking of government and the reduction of government spending.  Cuts, to balance the budget, are a mantra.

So I reluctantly point out the poetic justice that in the last year, in their attempt to shrink government spending, Rick Perry and the Texas State Government reduced the funding of volunteer fire departments (which play a major role in the state) from $30 million to $7 million.  That’s a whopping 75% slash!!!!

So now FEMA can come in and support the victims.  Oh … but Perry and his Tea Party associates feel that FEMA is a useless, inefficient organization and should be dismantled.
