TIFF – Take Shelter

I tend to avoid festival movies that are opening in theatres soon.  Why pay $22 for them at the festival when they’ll be in regular theatres within a month or three.

When I went to see Take Shelter I didn’t realize that it was opening next week (which is good news for you).  This is a fantastic film about a young man who becomes obsessed with his dreams and visions of an impending apocalypse.  All the while he is building a shelter in his back yard, he’s still not sure whether or not he’s going insane.  It is a film about obsession and schizophrenia, but also about trust and relationship.  It’s not a cheesy apocalypse film.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rare 100% rating.  It also won awards at Cannes and Sundance.  I would give this film an A.  See it when it comes out.
