With the provincial election barely a week away, the statements from the opposition parties are heating up. This morning I heard a radio spot kicking the Liberals for unemployment. It was very difficult to find up to date unemployment rates for Ontario, but I did find this graph and comment from Statistics Canada.
In the past 12 months, employment has grown by 1.3% (+223,000), primarily in Ontario and Alberta, and among private sector employees. Over this period, full-time employment increased 2.2% (+300,000), part-time work declined 2.3% (-77,000) and total actual hours worked rose by 2.6%.”
The graph is federal statistics, but the text indicates that the bounce back seems to be primarily in Ontario and Alberta.
I doubt very much that either opposition party would care to credit the Liberal government for this success. -Blame the problems on the government and the successes on chance…
