“The Guard”

Not all of the movies I caught in the past few weeks were depressingly about family deaths.  The Guard is a little known gem of a movie about an unorthodox Irish police officer who stumbles into an international drug smuggling investigation.  It is hilarious in that uniquely British sort of way, taking a very irreverent look at law enforcement. It is raunchy and raucous, and deserves to be made into a TV series, -although it might be hard to find sponsors and a network to air it.

I would give this film an A-.  It is in limited engagement at the Carlton theatre and has been for a while, so it probably won’t hang around for much longer, although the evening that I saw it, the place was packed.
