Iran Sanctions?

One of the key talking points in the campaign speeches of the Republican candidates, as they struggle to tear down Obama with any lie they can formulate, is that he’s soft on Iran and has not applied any stiff sanctions.  If that is the case, why is Iran now pushing a conflict in the Persian Gulf?  Because recent tough sanctions, spearheaded by the U.S., have crippled Iran’s economy.  Sanctions targeting Iran’s central bank have sent the country’s currency tumbling, having actually lost more than a third of its value since September.  This is the reason that Iran is bristling.

Of course, the Republicans continue to say that Obama is not taking any action.  These are the same politicians who would probably condemn Obama if he took any kind of definitive action, as he did in Libya.  These are the same politicians who never bring up the question of whose watch allowed the development of nuclear ennablement in N. Korea.  Let’s face it.  The Republicans are ready to sling mud at absolutely anything that Obama or a Democratic administration might do.  It has little to do with right or wrong, or even ideology.  It’s just a knee jerk reaction designed to try to discredit the existing administration in order to win the next election.  Foreign policy, public welfare, the economy, …all is secondary to that goal, -including any semblance of truth.
