Atlas Shrugged – Part 2

Posted: February 2, 2012 in Entertainment, Movies, politics

Be honest now.  How many of you out there actually saw the movie Atlas Shrugged Pt. 1, or for that matter have even the slightest inclination to rent it on DVD?  What?  I don’t see anybody.

As you know, I did go and see it.  I even had to truck downtown to see it, as it had the prestigious position of playing en all of one theatre.  Usually that means it’s a pretty good movie, but as my review on this blog pointed out back then, it is little more than a poor vehicle for the dissemination of Tea Party like ideas.  Ayn Rand, you recall, is the capitalist praising individualist darling of the neo-conservative movement.  I read the book and it was very important to me as a teenager, -as such things are to teenagers.  Then I moved on.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a wopping 11%, with such classic comments as, “made on the cheap”, and “a tacky bore”.  So of course … Part 2 is scheduled to be made this Spring, with the time lime geared to have it released in theatres just before the election.  If there was any question of the true nature and purpose of this film, there’s little doubt now.  It’s a piece of propaganda, designed to fire up the John Galt wannabees of the world.

The only problem is that the people who Rand is truly appealing to are Ron Paul supporters, …and I don’t think they’re going to be too happy this summer.
